Veteran Taiwanese actress Chen Shu-fang (陳淑芳) won best leading actress and best supporting actress at the Golden Horse Awards on Saturday (Nov. 21).

According to the 57th edition of the Golden Horse Award committee, it was the 81-year-old actress' first nomination in a performing career of over 60 years. To everyone's surprise, she won two major awards.

Chen won best leading actress for the family film "Little Big Women" (孤味), in which she plays a mother of three daughters, who has to deal with her runaway husband's funeral, along with his secret lover.

 

Disney-themed Christmasland in New Taipei opens Nov. 13

New Taipei City on Monday (Oct. 26) announced the opening date of its much-anticipated Christmasland festival, which this year will feature a Disney-themed light show.

For the 10th anniversary of New Taipei City's Christmasland, the city announced on Sept. 7 that this year's version will feature Disney characters such as Snow White, Peter Pan, Dumbo, and Alice in Wonderland in light shows and installations. After over a month of speculation over the starting date, the city on Monday (Oct. 26) announced that the festival will start on Nov. 13, 2020, and last until Jan. 3, 2021, a total of 52 days, reported UDN.

In addition to New Taipei City Plaza, this year's event will also be installations at the Fuzhong Shopping Area. New Taipei's Christmasland, which is listed along with Hong Kong, Tokyo, and Singapore as one of the "four major Christmas celebrations in Asia," has not yet revealed much information about this year's festivities.

 

Online entertainment poll marks Taiwanese artists with Chinese flags

 Taiwanese stars from supermodel Lin Chi-ling (林志玲) to “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” actor Chang Chen (張震) have been identified with China's flag instead of Taiwan's national flag in the annual online entertainment poll by the T.C. Candler website, reports said Friday (Oct. 16).

Taiwan indigenous singer Abao biggest winner at Golden Melody Awards

Indigenous Taiwanese singer Abao's "Kinakaian" ("Mother Tongue") emerged as the biggest winner at the 31st Golden Melody Awards in Taipei Saturday.

"Kinakaian" won Album of the Year, Best Indigenous Language Album, and the track "Thank You" clinched Song of the Year at the awards ceremony held at Taipei Music Center. The jury commended the album, saying that the unique performance of Abao, whose full name is Aljenljeng Tjaluvie, transcended the language barrier.

 

Fu first woman to win Taipei Expressway Marathon 3 consecutive times

Cannes Film Festival features 80 Taiwanese films

The festival will be held online due to the pandemic and will start next Monday (June 22-26). Taiwan Creative Content Agency organizes the Taiwan section, which features 80 Taiwan films that explore the nation's hotspots, according to the agency.
