Eco-Counter in Taiwan: Advancing SmartMobility Through Franco-Taiwanese Collaboration

French Chamber Taiwan was pleased to facilitate a series of high-level meetings between Eco-Counter (represented by Robin Ranjore), a global leader in pedestrian and cyclist counting solutions, and key Taiwanese government stakeholders during the week of March 24–26, 2026.

Eco-Counter's visit to Taiwan underscores the growing momentum behind smart mobility and sustainable urban planning across the island, and the role that Franco-Taiwanese partnerships can play in shaping the cities of tomorrow.

  • 2 Cities, One Shared Vision

Over the course of three days, the Eco-Counter delegation engaged with decision-makers at the national and municipal levels, exploring opportunities for collaboration around cycling infrastructure, traffic monitoring, and green mobility.

  • Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC)

The visit opened with a working session at the French Chamber offices in Taipei, bringing together researchers and engineers from the Institute of Transportation. Discussions focused on cycling network planning, road safety, traffic calming strategies, and the allocation of public space among different modes of transport,  all areas where Eco-Counter's data-driven solutions can provide actionable insights for policymakers.

  • Taipei City Government

At Taipei City Hall, the delegation met with Deputy Secretary-General Mr. Lin Shih-Bin, Chief Secretary Mr. Liu Jia-You from the Department of Transportation, and representatives from planning, technology, and traffic engineering divisions. The conversation centered on green mobility, walking, cycling, and urban flows, reflecting Taipei's ambition to become a more livable, people-centered city.

  • Kaohsiung City Government

The visit concluded in Kaohsiung, where the delegation was welcomed by Director-General Mr. Tai-Hsiang Liao of the Economic Development Bureau, alongside senior representatives from the Transportation Bureau and the Information Technology Bureau. The discussions explored environmental protection, sustainable tourism, and smart governance, with a particular focus on how data and technology can support Kaohsiung's green transition.

  • 2026 SDGs x DERUMI Forum

Beyond institutional meetings, the Eco-Counter delegation also attended the 2026 SDGs x DERUMI Forum, where they had the opportunity to meet with the Director General of FANCA responsible of parc and forests.
