[ESG Club] ESG Essentials for Every Business: From Basics to Benchmark

We had a great session at the French Chamber Taiwan (CCIFT)! It's always inspiring to see our ESG community come together to dive into the fundamentals shaping global business today.

Focus: From CSR to ESG, and How Benchmarks Drive Change

We were delighted to welcome Joey Wei, Research Manager at the World Benchmarking Alliance (WBA), who walked us through the evolution from traditional CSR to fully integrated ESG strategy. Joey explained how WBA assesses close to 2,000 of the world's most influential companies across seven transformation systems, from Climate and Social to Nature and Food & Agriculture. The session focused in particular on two benchmarks: the Social Benchmark, covering human rights, decent work, and ethical conduct, and the Climate Benchmark, covering transition plan quality, emissions performance, and just transition for workers and communities. Joey also shared concrete ways companies can close the gap between stated commitments and real implementation, from extending human rights due diligence to suppliers, to backing climate targets with real capital investment rather than intent alone.

The session sparked a lively Q&A covering WBA's independence and funding model, how Taiwan's 28 assessed companies compare globally, and the realities of migrant worker conditions in Taiwan's labour market.

The meeting saw active participation from a diverse range of member companies, including representatives from:

  • Anemone Ventures Ltd.
  • Lado
  • Thales
  • Decathlon
  • Pernod Ricard
  • Yaho
  • Ciel & Terre Taiwan
  • Eiger
  • STMicroelectronics
  • L'Oréal
  • CMA CGM
  • Cooperl

Special thanks to Joey Wei and the World Benchmarking Alliance team for a comprehensive and thought-provoking session. The meeting was organized by Amber and hosted at the Chamber offices.

Next Meeting: Details to be announced soon. Stay tuned!
