[CFO Club] How Geoeconomic Fragmentation is Reshaping Corporate Strategy & Economic Implications of the 2026 Middle East War for Taiwan ⛓️💥

Club CFO gathered this quarter at the Veolia office in Taipei for a session exploring how geoeconomic fragmentation is reshaping corporate strategy, alongside the economic implications for Taiwan of the 2026 Middle East war.
We extend our sincere thanks to Veolia for kindly hosting us, and to our two guest speakers for their insightful presentations. Antoine Aubel, Head of the Economic Department at the Bureau Français de Taipei, opened the session with an analysis of the global economic implications for Taiwan of the 2026 Middle East war, examining the disruption to energy markets following the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, the resulting pressure on producer and consumer prices, and why Taiwan’s ongoing AI supercycle has so far cushioned the broader macroeconomic impact. He closed by underlining the value of French and European companies in Taiwan as reliable long-term partners amid rising geopolitical fragmentation.
Chris Hung, Senior Industry Consultant and Vice President at the Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute (MIC), followed with a presentation on Taiwan’s strategic edge in the global AI supply chain. The discussion traced the shift from low-cost, efficiency-first globalization toward a more resilient, multi-location model, explored how AI is moving from content generation toward agentic and physical applications, and highlighted Taiwan’s leadership in wafer foundry and OSAT capacity as the foundation for scalable global AI production.
The presentations were followed by a lively exchange among members, who reflected on the session’s broader, more geopolitically-driven format compared to the Club’s usual operationally-focused topics. Members are encouraged to share whether this format was of interest, alongside their availability and topic proposals for the next meeting.
