Bureau Veritas Supports Smart Power System in Achieving IEC 62443-3-3 Certification

Strengthening Cyber Resilience for Smart Power Systems and Advancing Alignment with International Standards and Global Markets

Amid the accelerating global energy transition and the rapid development of Smart Grids and AI infrastructure, power and industrial control systems are becoming increasingly digitalized. Cybersecurity has consequently evolved beyond device-level protection to become a critical element in ensuring the stable operation and operational resilience of critical infrastructure.

As asset owners and regulators worldwide place greater emphasis on autonomous cybersecurity compliance, transparent and impartial third-party certification has become increasingly important. Bureau Veritas (BV), a global leader in Testing, Inspection and Certification (TIC), supported Smart Power System Co., Ltd. (SPS) in achieving IEC 62443-3-3 cybersecurity certification. This achievement demonstrates SPS’s continued commitment to the independent development of smart power systems, system integration and cybersecurity protection, while further enhancing system security, reliability and market competitiveness through alignment with international standards.

SPS has long invested in the independent development of smart power systems and related core technologies. From EMS power management, AC/DC electricity control to software/hardware integration, the company has continued to build comprehensive system integration capabilities. As Smart Grids, AI data centers and high-performance computing drive a new wave of power demand, enterprises must look beyond energy efficiency and intelligent management. System security, reliability and continuity of operations have become equally indispensable.

Dr. Kevin Huang, General Manager of Smart Power System, said:
“Smart Power System has long invested in the independent development of smart power systems and related core technologies. From systems and software to power control, we are committed to mastering critical capabilities. As AI data centers and Smart Grids continue to develop rapidly, market expectations for power management, system stability and cybersecurity are also increasing. Cybersecurity and quality are fundamental to building customer trust and are core strengths as we expand internationally. We sincerely appreciate the professional support provided by the Bureau Veritas expert team in helping us assess and strengthen product security. This achievement belongs to our entire R&D team. Our goal is not simply to obtain certification, but to embed these standards into our operations. Building on our existing ISO and IEC standards, we will continue to pursue more stringent international reliability standards, deepen our smart power technologies, and actively expand into overseas markets including Japan, Australia and Philippines, as well as explore broader application opportunities.”

During the certification process, Bureau Veritas reviewed relevant cybersecurity requirements at the system level and applied an international standards framework to help SPS assess whether its system design and protection mechanisms provide a consistent and verifiable security foundation. For smart power systems and critical infrastructure, cybersecurity is no longer an additional feature introduced after product development; rather, it is an essential design consideration that must be incorporated from the system architecture and development stages.

David Hsueh, Director of Cybersecurity Division of CPS Technology Products Taiwan, Bureau Veritas, said: “Cybersecurity and quality are essential foundations for building customer trust. IEC 62443-3-3 does not focus solely on individual devices; it addresses the security requirements and protection capabilities of an entire system. Throughout the certification process, we saw SPS demonstrate strong capabilities in independent R&D and system integration, as well as its ability to implement cybersecurity requirements in practical applications. For smart power systems, reliability, security and continuity of operations are just as important as functionality and performance. Certification against international standards can further strengthen market and customer confidence in an enterprise’s solutions.”

Ryan Tseng, Director, Sales & Marketing Division, CPS Technology Products Taiwan, Bureau Veritas, said: “As OT and IT environments become increasingly integrated, and applications involving AI, Smart Grids and energy digitalization continue to expand, enterprises are facing increasingly complex cybersecurity risks. IEC 62443 provides an internationally recognized and systematic industrial cybersecurity framework, helping enterprises establish a consistent security foundation from risk management and system architecture through to practical protection measures. SPS’s achievement of IEC 62443-3-3 certification not only demonstrates its continued investment in technology and cybersecurity but also helps strengthen international customer confidence in its products and solutions, further enhancing its competitiveness in the global market.”

Bureau Veritas has long been committed to industrial and product cybersecurity certification services. IEC 62443-related services cover different areas and levels, including service providers, systems, product development lifecycles and components. Leveraging its global technical resources and local expertise, Bureau Veritas supports enterprises in establishing cybersecurity governance and certification frameworks aligned with international standards—from organizational processes and development procedures to system architecture and product design.

Looking ahead, Bureau Veritas will continue to combine its global certification experience with local technical expertise to help more Taiwanese enterprises address evolving industrial and OT cybersecurity challenges, strengthen the security, reliability and resilience of their products and systems, and leverage international standards to expand into global markets.
