"Earth from Above & Taiwan from Above" Exhibition

The director Po-Lin Chi of the film "Beyond Beauty - Taiwan from Above" and the French photography gallery YellowKorner will jointly exhibit during the Art Taipei Fair. From October 23, 2021 to Sunday, October 31, we hope to demonstrate the spirit of caring our earth through encouraging Taiwanese’s affection for the land.

In 1992, the 46-year-old French photographer Yann Arthus-Bertrand photographed a heart-shaped pattern "Heart of Voh" naturally formed by mangroves in New Caledonia, he has since become famous and has become a legend of aerial photography masters.  By 2000, Bertrand personally curated the "Earth from Above" video exhibition series, starting from Luxembourg Gardens in Paris to Montreal, Canada. It has toured and exhibited in more than 110 cities around the world, attracted a total of 120 million visitors.  Countless people are touched by strong impressions to the environmental issues and raised sense of protection to the earth.  Taiwan also co-exhibited at Taipei Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, Taichung Science Museum and Kaohsiung Science and Technology Museum, participating in this international event together!

In 2013, the 49-year-old Taiwanese photographer Po-Lin Chi accumulated 20 years of aerial photography experience and spent 3 years photographing countless humanities and landscapes for homeland Taiwan. He directed an unique documentary film "Taiwan from Above", allowing people to explore the beauty and destruction of Taiwan, it astonished people's hearts as soon as it was released.  Director Po-Lin Chi once mentioned that he was inspired by the documentary "Home" filmed by Luc Besson and Yann Arthurs-Bertrand, which then help to make up his mind to do something for Taiwan no matter what; even this documentary costs nearly 100 million Taiwan dollars.  The masterpiece was eventually able to be shown to the public in the cinema.

This joint exhibition combines the spirit of two national treasure masters. Through aerial photography, not only reveals the rare beauty of the earth and Formosa, but also conveys the spiritual concept behind photography.  Just like Bertrand once said: "I don't want to just take beautiful photos, but to extract meaningful and thought-provoking scenes." And director Po-Lin Chi also said: "I give people heart-sinking images, but the images also make people feel proud. I hope to remind in due course: what kind of future we want to choose?" Seeing the earth and seeing the Beauty of Formosa will allow you to appreciate the aerial photography of Taiwan and the world at one time, and be immersed in a satisfying visual experience.  A feast for the soul.
