Information for French Citizens

YOU ARE LOOKING FOR AN INTERNSHIP WITH A FRENCH COMPANY:

If they are looking for an internship, candidates can contact the Economic Mission, the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Taiwan (CCIFT) (see useful addresses) and French businesses present in Taiwan. You can order a directory of French businesses and their details from the Economic Mission or the CCIFT.

Associations can help look for an internship:

The International Association of Students of Economics and Management (AIESEC), which is principally for students from business or engineering schools which are part of the association.

The French and International Association for Technical Internships Abroad (French International Committee, (AFSTE-IAESTE)).

The National Linguistic Study Periods and Internship Guarantee Board.

YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A JOB:

Make it a priority to contact the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Taiwan’s “employment” service, which keeps up-to-date details of job offers and situations wanted made by French organisations and companies in Taiwan and Taiwanese companies who are members of the Chamber.

Making situations wanted known to local businesses does not fall within the remit of the Economic Mission.

The Taiwanese employment market is fairly dynamic, but good knowledge of Chinese, as well as English, is desirable, if not indispensable. Assuming these conditions are fulfilled, local companies recruit foreigners if they bring particular skills to the company (engineers, technicians, IT specialists, programmers, graphic artists...) or if they can assist in communicating with foreign suppliers.

Employment conditions in Taiwan are those of a medium-income country with Chinese culture: 14 month salaries, health insurance, one week of annual leave and 10 days of national holidays. Employees are not housed by their companies and foreigners are generally recruited on the basis of a local contract. A public retirement system was created in 2005, but is still not generalised.

If the local company provides evidence that the recruitment of a foreigner is necessary to the company, owing to that foreigner’s personal profile, the work permit procedure is relatively simple. The request is directly submitted by the recruiting company.
