Taiwan has a surface area of 36,000 kilometres squared, which includes the island of Taiwan itself, the Kinmen and Matsu Islands, the Pescadores Archipelago (Penghu), Green Island and Orchid Island.
The island is 377 km long (North/South) and 142 km wide at its widest point.
Taiwan’s geography consists of a central mountain range, volcanic in origin, bordered by hills and plateaus, coastal plains and river basins.
The climate is subtropical with average temperatures of 22ºC in the North and 24.5ºC in the South.
